Immediately after His baptism by John, Jesus is led up into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit to be tempted by the devil. This is hardly what anyone coming out to be baptized by John would have expected. What are the purpose of these temptations, and why do they occur immediately after Jesus’ baptism? Ryan attempts to answer these questions in the first part of this four part series in Matthew 4:1-11.
